Jennifer Harrigan outlasted other bidders at Saturday’s Starpoint Celebrity Signature Auction and took home a once-in-a-lifetime piece of art – a Salvador Dali etching signed by the legendary artist.

“I’m thrilled,” Harrigan said of her catch of the night. As a member of the Starpoint Foundation Board of Directors, she was present when Brendan Pardue donated the artwork for the Wine and Cheese Fundraiser.

“I’ve been salivating over it for quite some time,” Harrigan said.

She faced some steep competition for the piece, titled “El Greco.” Linda Simpson tried to take the etching home, but time ran out before she could place a final bid.

“Art is always a good investment,” Simpson said. “I’m sure I’d find a special place for it.”

Harrigan said she and her husband, Chris, are renovating their home, so she’s not certain where she will display her new masterpiece.

“Probably in the dining room or in the entry way,” she said. “It would be fabulous there.”

Harrigan admitted, however, that her husband is the decorator in the family.

“He’ll get the final say,” she said.

In addition to donating the Dali, Pardue hosted the formal event at his home, the Gibson Mansion, 907 Greenwood Ave. He said he purchased the etching about 10 years ago from a dealer here in Cañon City.

“It has name recognition and it’s for a good cause,” Pardue said. “It’s worthy of Starpoint.”

Starpoint CEO Roger Jensen thanked Pardue for opening his home for the event and welcomed the crowd to the auction, which featured a basketball signed by Carmelo Anthony, Christo and Jeanne Claude photographs, a filled wine rack and bottles of wine signed by a variety of renowned people.

“Tonight is a very special evening for us,” Jensen said. “We serve over 1,100 children, families and adults with disabilities. Through the support of people like you, we are able to continue your work.

“We appreciate you opening your hearts and, hopefully, your checkbooks,” Jensen said.

The Winery at Holy Cross Abbey provided wine for the event, and the Aspen Leaf Bakery of Florence provided hors d’oeuvres.
