RE: Starpoint Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
To our Families, Clients, Staff and Community Partners,
Like so many others in communities across the world, Starpoint has spent the last several days learning about the coronavirus (COVID-19), its impact in our community, and best practices to prevent the spread of the virus. We are committed to being proactive in understanding how COVID-19 affects our employees, clients, and communities, and making the necessary adjustments to our operations to safeguard individuals and their families.
With that in mind, we have made several changes within our agency in response to the threat of the coronavirus and will continue to evaluate the spread in our local community and respond accordingly.
We are implementing the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) guidelines and recommendations on the steps we can take to help prevent the spread of the virus. Starpoint has increased cleaning and disinfecting practices in our facilities, homes, early childhood centers and day programming sites. We have made hand sanitizer, disinfecting wipes and protective masks available in areas where individuals are identified as higher risk. Supervisors are reviewing relevant policies and procedures and are providing additional training and guidance to staff on measures that relate to the prevention of spreading viruses and supporting individuals in our care that may show symptoms of illness. We have rescheduled several face to face meetings, large gatherings, and have discouraged non-essential visitors to our sites, homes and facilities. We are asking everyone to wash their hands as they enter the early childhood centers. We are utilizing phones and other forms of technology to complete mandatory meetings and trainings to again limit the spread of any viruses.
We will continue to closely monitor the situation, follow prudent professional advice, and do all we can to protect our staff, clients, families and community. Starpoint will provide additional information and updates when necessary and strives to be informative and transparent in our risk management response. If you have any concerns or questions, please feel free to reach out to us at any time.

“In the middle of my day after hearing about our president’s destructive action today, something precious happened to me. Because Jon’s beloved Bean Pit exploded, some of you suggested a real animal water trough, hence, after Speech Therapy we stopped at our Tractor Supply. I asked for help in the “yard” to find one that could hold Jon AND 100# of pintos. A very tall, slender man with a slight speech impediment came. Because the yard was enclosed I turned Jon loose while I asked the man about the various selections. He patiently helped me & when Jon came back to me; he spoke to Jon & asked him a question. As my daughter, Tracye Quinlan, would say, “Teaching Moment!” I told him about Jon & then, to my utter delight, he told me about himself! He asked if I’d heard of Starpoint. I told him I belonged to Starpoint Family Services and they were always helping me in every way that they could with Jon. He then told me, “they help me with my budgeting.” “Do you live in a Host Home?” I asked. “No, I have my own house!” I almost cried. “How long have you worked here?” “Three years.” He shared his history with me. A victim of Fetal Alcohol plus his father was a victim of Agent Orange. He was born without the ability to suck & had to be tube fed. (He asked if I like to fish because Jon would qualify for a lifetime Fishing License!) I applaud Starpoint Family Services! I’ve been involved with them for all the years since my granddaughter was born with Downs Syndrome & then for all the toddlers I’ve fostered. I also APPLAUD our TRACTOR SUPPLY branch in Canon City, CO! (Now to transfer 100 lb beans to the new, UNBREAKABLE bean tub!)”
Thank you again for all that you & StarPoint do for this Community! You’d enjoy the response I had from my FB post. StarPoint is very much appreciated by the community you serve.

My favorite part about Starpoint is the bowling tournament. I get to bowl with my friends and win trophies.
Starpoint is AWESOME! They helped me to get a job and be a good person in my community.
Very intelligent, dedicated individuals with compassion, intuition and high level skills; knowledge of intricacies of program and excellent communication skills with both consumers and families.
I have come a long way from when I first started. I am very happy with what you are doing for me. Don’t Stop. But, do set up a class for dancing.
I can’t thank Starpoint enough for the support they give to my son; He loves his program and daily schedule and they offer him so much more than I would be able to on my own. I’m forever grateful for this organization.
Starpoint has helped my relationship with my daughter blossom. They can provide the supports and I can step back and just be MOM now.
I have been more aware of my child’s health and learning abilities.
I talk with my child differently. I make sure I explain things with detail and clarity.
I have learned new techniques in discipline and patience.
I am always so excited to see what we will do next during my visit and to see what my child can do.
I’m nervous about asking for help and you’ve made it go by without embarrassment or worry. Thank you!
Thank you! You took a burden off my shoulders. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
